PPI measures how many individual pixels fit in one inch of screen space. Higher PPI means a sharper, crisper image and more detail packed into the same physical area. Formula:
PPI = √(W² + H²) / diagonal
Dot pitch is the physical distance (in millimetres) between the centres of adjacent pixels of the same colour. It is simply the reciprocal of PPI expressed in mm:
dot pitch = 25.4 / PPI. A smaller dot pitch means pixels are closer together → sharper picture.
